Compassion to Forgive

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Colossians 3:12-13

Is there someone in your life that has hurt you?

Is there someone in your life whose actions continue to hurt you?

What are you doing about it?

Are you looking for ways to get back at them? Maybe to expose some secret you know just to get a jab in. Or, maybe you’d like to tell them off so you can put them in their place.

Where will that get you?

Nowhere.

Because all of this is only feeding your lingering anger and building up bitterness.

No, it’s not wrong to be angry at the hurt done against you, but when you’re not dealing with it in a way that ultimately leads to forgiveness, then you are only building up more wrath for yourself.

Determining to put on a heart of compassion by being kind, humble, gentle, and patient in spite of how someone has hurt you will be your medicine. This will not only bless you but also bless them.

Don’t like the idea of blessing them? Then think about how Jesus has blessed you with forgiveness. Think of how you’ve continually hurt Him, but He promises to continue to be compassionate.

With such grace given to you, why would you not extend this blessing others? What makes you so much more deserving than them?

Praise the Lord for His abundant compassion to forgive! May we put forth our best efforts to honor Him by striving to do the same.
