Sunday Refection: Enduring Shame For Joy

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews‬ ‭12:1-2‬

Jesus endured for us, we can endure for Him. He went to that horrible cross and despised the shame of such a hostile death yet He found joy in what the sacrifice would bring for those who have faith in Him. He is the ultimate example of faith which is why He is named the author and finisher. It’s time to lay aside every weight and sin that so easily ensnares us. It’s the only way to run with endurance the race before us. It’s the way that we will gain the joyous victory to see Jesus sitting at the right hand of the throne of God. He is there with excited anticipation waiting for His faithful. It’s why His despisement was overcome by joy.

Prayer:
Our merciful God, thank you for sending us a Savior that was willing to endure horrible shame because He saw the joy He would gain for Himself and His faithful. His actions prove Him to be the one we are to look to as the author and finisher of our faith. We put aside anything that is hindering us in keeping endurance in our race to see Him at Your right hand. We remember His endurance of the cross today as we partake of His supper. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather
