Sunday Reflection: A Time to Submit

“Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?” Matthew 26:53-54

Jesus was being arrested. Peter drew his sword and cut off the right ear of the high priest’s servant; it was an act of protecting Jesus as the betrayer, Judas, and an armed multitude came to wrongfully take Jesus away. But Jesus would have none of it! He was perfectly capable of protecting Himself as He had the power to call upon His Father to send legions of angels to save Him. Yet, this was not the time to be saved, but the time to submit to what must be fulfilled.

The thought that Jesus had the power to stop all His suffering at any moment and chose to humble Himself in complete obedience to the point of death amazes me. How I seek to have this same mind and become a bondservant just as He was. How I long for the privilege to see Him in His highly exalted place, bow before Him, and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father; for this is what He died for!

Phil. 2:5-11

Prayer:
I stand amazed on this Lord’s day, my Father. Jesus was very capable of calling upon You to save Him in His darkest hours yet chose to fully submit to the plan You had set to save mankind. And because of this, I partake of the supper He established to honor His obedience to the point of death. Teach me to be as commited as my Savior Who is deserving of exaltation and praise of all creation to the glory of You, my God. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather
