Poem: Picking a Fight

I will take everything you say,
And make it wrong,
Turn it into something it’s not,
Some nasty old song.

Evil’s not your intent,
But I will make it that way.
My sensitive mind is made up,
No matter what you say.

I want to push you,
For my own selfish reason,
To unfairly provoke your anger,
Accusing you of treason.

I’m going to pick a fight,
So you better be ready,
Cause I will find anything,
No matter how petty.

Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman. Proverbs 21:19

Prayer:
What is the wilderness but a dry and desolate place. It’s a wasteland not for dwelling, but Your wisdom, my God, says it’s better to dwell there than with a contentious and angry woman. How I need to heed this saying in those moments where I want to pick a fight. To remember the damage to my family when all I want is to act out of my foul and angry mood to cause contention. May I make my home a fruitful dwelling place filled with love, understanding, and temperance. I ask for Your guidance and chastening to help me in my efforts as I continually seek Your forgiveness in my failings most gracious Lord. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather

  1. Beautiful poem Heather. I know we try not to live in that “pick a fight” mode, but I think I had those moments more when I had PMS. No excuse however. Luckily those days r over for me pretty much. We always have something to work on tho.
