Sunday Reflection: Lucky

But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:5-6

LUCKY!!! That’s all I can think of when I think about these women. Mary Magdalene and the other women with her are the luckiest women. And I don’t mean lucky as if God didn’t have a hand in this, but lucky in the sense that they were the first to experience the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. They saw the angel who rolled back the stone. They saw the empty tomb. And to top it all off, they saw Jesus Himself on their way to tell His disciples. He even spoke to them and they touched Him by holding Him by the feet and worshipping Him.

What would it be like to have witnessed the greatest miracle of all time? Though it was amazing, I’m sure these women didn’t quite understand the magnitude of how what they were experiencing would transform the world for centuries to come. But, those of us living today can clearly see it and this is why all I can think to say of them is….LUCKY!!!

Prayer:
How blessed were the women who first experienced Jesus’ resurrection! You, my Father, made His victory over death a reality by the power of the Holy Spirit. What it must’ve been like to witness such power! To see the angel at the empty tomb of the person you knew was dead only a few days ago. And then, to actually see Him, touch Him, and hear Him. How amazing and lucky to see with their own eyes the most transforming event in history. Thank you, LORD, for Jesus’ resurrection and all the witnesses who give us confirmation of His rising from the dead. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather
