But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”Acts 5:29
Jesus gave the command to His specially chosen 11 remaining disciples to preach the gospel to every nation (Matt. 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-16). This originally was a unique ministry and responsibility given to what would eventually become 13 apostles; one of which could not be neglected or forsaken no matter what the cost. Have you ever considered that if any of these men had given into the repeated threats and afflictions by deserting their duty that they would have been in direct disobedience to God? To heed intimidation against the spread of the gospel would be in submission to men rather than God. Not one of them ever left their ministry. In fact, they were martyred for the sake of it. Their obedience, and of the many disciples that have come after them, have ensured that future generations have hope in the gospel. May we too stand firm in obeying God rather than men so that generations hereafter will continue to hear the good news of eternal life!
Prayer:
My God, it is Your word that must be heard for faith to come forth within the heart. It is because of this that I am grateful for those that have spread the gospel before me and continue to proclaim it today so that others may call upon Jesus. “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things.” I will cherish Your good news by sounding forth Jesus’ story of resurrection for the salvation of those who believe, confess, and obey. In Christ be the glory forever, Amen! (Rom. 10:8-17)
Truth in love,
Heather
