Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven–things which angels desire to look into. I Peter 1:10-12
Prayer:
My God, Who revealed Your plan of grace before the time was due. What wonder and anticipation Your prophets must have experienced knowing that there would come a time after them where a great King would suffer to bring about the glories that would follow. Through their obedient ministry for future generations the gospel was confirmed and preached by Christ’s faithful witnesses by the power of the Holy Spirit; it was a gospel for then and still is a gospel for now. This is the time You have chosen for the salvation of Your people. It’s a salvation that exemplifies Your glory as the things it emcompasses even angels desire to look into. It is Your love, grace, and justice testified beforehand and fulfilled by Christ sufferings so that following generations can confidently live by faith in anticipation for their salvation. How grateful I am to be a partaker of this anticipation and blessed to honor what Your prophets’ ministry was all about when I eat this bread and drink this cup to proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes again. Amen.
