Be temperate in all things. Discipline your body and bring it into subjection to Christ. Don’t let your feelings totally rule your actions. Feelings can be fleeting and unpredictable. Be certain of who you are in Christ and fight to act the way you want to feel even when your emotions say differently. Therein lies the genuine devotion in the race for the competitor who will win the prize to obtain an imperishable crown.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. I Corinthians 9:24-27
Prayer:
My God, so many times I struggle with my feelings and allow them to dictate my actions. I know this is dangerous because my feelings do not always line up with who I need to be in Christ. Please forgive me for these moments of weakness. I will improve upon this to become temperate in all things, disciplining my body in subjection to Christ no matter how I feel. This is my true, genuine devotion in the race I am running to obtain an imperishable crown; a crown I am so thankful You will give to all of us who fight with certainty in Christ. Amen.
Truth in love,
Heather
