Sunday Reflection: That Deceiver

“Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.” Matthew 27:63-64

That deceiver. Is that what He is? In spite of every miracle performed, every prophesy fulfilled, the earth quake that split rocks, the veil of the temple being torn — Jesus is still a deceiver to them. Well, good. This just means that His resurrection will be even more believable because they will take every measure humanly possible to be sure Jesus’ body stays in that tomb.

They seal the stone and set the guards. The tomb is secure. No way is Jesus’ disciples going to get His body. Only heaven itself could cause such an extraction. And that is the point of it all. The greatest, proven nondeception is about to happen.

Prayer:
With many proofs, You, Oh LORD, made Jesus’ resurrection undeniable. The deceiver was never Jesus, but those who denied the truths He taught confirmed by all the miracles surrounding them. That so called deceiver was no deceiver at all. He was the Son You sent to this earth Who was laid in a tightly secure tomb that could not keep Him there — evidence that heaven’s power overcomes every scheme of man. Hallelujah! Amen!

Truth in love,
Heather
