But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Galatians 3:23-25
The old law was our tutor,
Instructing in things we needed to learn,
Until faith in Christ could be established,
His purpose we could discern.
You see God made a promise,
To save all man by Abraham’s seed;
Through him all nations would be blessed,
By his faith Abraham agreed.
Yet there was more to instruct,
Before the promise could be fulfilled,
So a law was added to expose transgressions,
Man’s helpless state God revealed.
The law did not bring man life,
His erroneous ways it clearly confirmed;
For no man could abide by it perfectly,
The need for the seed it affirmed.
When the time was fully right,
The seed of promise came to this earth;
Keeping the law perfectly He did the impossible,
Proving the divinity of His birth.
He gave us faith outside the law,
Showing that He alone could justify man;
The perfect sacrifice to make us holy,
When we believe in His eternal plan.
Prayer:
The God who knows the beginning and end of all things; I understand You formulated a plan to save the fall of man. This was done through Abraham’s seed, and I am so grateful You gave us the means to overcome the condemnation of the law by faith in this seed which is Christ. Thank you for the law that gives clarity as to why we needed salvation. I cherish the words written by those of the old law for they are the tutor that brought about faith in Christ. Glory to You, my God, for providing a way for justification outside the law whereby I can live by faith in Christ and know I am saved from all my transgressions. Amen.
Truth in love,
Heather
