Secure My Place

You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Galatians 5:4

Can it happen,
The thing that I most fear?
Could I lose my freedom,
When it is so near?

You sure can,
Severed from Christ it’s true;
Depending on what you seek,
This could be you.

But how can that be,
The promise is made sure;
I believe in Jesus,
So what is the cure?

Belief is the beginning,
But your life must change;
You can’t expect freedom,
Unless you rearrange.

How is this done,
How can I be sure,
To know my ending,
To keep it secure?

Put away the flesh,
And walk by the Spirit;
Diligently apply the word,
Every time you hear it.

Put away the flesh,
What does this mean?
How do I do that,
To keep my soul clean?

Don’t practice the deeds,
Of immorality and the like,
Anger, strife, and envy,
Aren’t part of your psych.

What about the Spirit,
How do I follow His stride?
Should I just shut myself up,
Run far away and hide?

Love your neighbor,
Live with joy and peace,
Be patient with self-control,
Don’t let faithfulness cease.

I’m going to do it,
I won’t fall from grace.
I’m going to live by the Spirit,
I WILL secure my place!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Prayer:
My Father of grace, it is with joy that I face each day knowing that I am free through Christ. And though I have this assurance, I also know I must continue in my faithfulness by walking in the Spirit to keep it secure. It is not a walk that is perfect, but one that I continually strive to do my best by putting away outbursts of anger, immorality, strife, jealousy, and the like thus putting on love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Please forgive my failed efforts in this. With the Spirit as my guide, I will become better and better each day, not seeking justification through the old law that brings condemnation, but by Your grace where I am justified through faith in Christ. What a blessing this is! Amen!

Truth in love,
Heather
