It’s a New Year but What’s Really New?

That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9

A new year has come, and a new year has gone. History has been made… your history.

And here we are again at another turn of a new year. How are you feeling about your 2018? How are you feeling about your 2019? Are you planning to make some real, lasting changes?

There’s nothing new under the sun. You’ve heard that before. But have you listened?

I don’t know what it is about our human nature that thinks we can buck the system and do better than those before. That we can find some easy or more innovative way around what we want to accomplish. That somehow we are different from previous generations who have fallen into the same cycle of mistakes.

Guess what, my friend, there’s STILL nothing new under the sun.

And when we take a step back and really let that sink in and believe it, it is then that we can open up a whole new world of change within ourselves to look to the past to make a better future.

So, what are you aspiring to accomplish this year? Who are you aspiring to be?

Will you continue to try to find the easy way around, failing because it’s too hard, or will you do as those who have learned there’s nothing new under the sun by learning from other’s (and your own) mistakes?

Doing the same things you’ve always done will get you the same things you’ve always had.

You can’t change what’s been done, but how about changing what’s to come?

Another year is here and another year will go. Maybe there’s nothing new under the sun as far as basic life cycles, human nature, and natural laws, but what can be new under the sun is your determination to take this to heart and make this year your year to make a bold mark on your history.

Prayer:
My Father who daily renews my soul; I am ready to begin this year with determination to do better than ever before. I know the road to growth is not easy and to overcome obstacles to accomplish worthy feats in Your kingdom takes time and effort. I will learn from my mistakes and of those who have gone before me because in understanding that there’s nothing new under the sun, I can apply the basic principles of life, use them to gain insight, and truly comprehend that what I do under the sun is only good if it is bringing You honor and glory. As the cycle of life continues, one day I will be gone and forgotten on this earth, but generations will continue to be blessed by the efforts of those who carry on Your message and will. May You be the reason for all I strive to do. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather
