They Enjoyed Life Together

Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:9

You know what inspires me? Couples who have been married 40, 50, 60 years.

I recently went to a funeral for my childhood dance teacher’s husband, Kenneth. As I read the excerpt of his obituary, there it was — married 60 years! Wow!

I can tell you, it was no accident they were married this long. Though his wife, Phyllis, was the owner and primary instructor of her dance studio, Kenneth was ALWAYS a big part of it all. From cordinating recitals, helping with studio repairs, and even teaching gymnastics classes (he taught me how to do back flips), this once skinny, blonde, blue-eyed little girl got to observe a man who loved and sacrificed for his wife.

As the stories of his life unfolded at the funeral, it was apparent that he enjoyed his days with the woman he loved all the days of his fleeting life. They labored and toiled many years together; encouraged and inspired many young people together; had many challenges yet many laughs together; and they did it all by keeping their love alive making it to 60 years of marriage. What a rewarding life to share under the sun!

Prayer:
What a joy to see a man enjoy life with the woman that he loves! It is a reward from You, our Holy Father, and it is not something that happens by accident. When a husband and wife work together and sacrifice together, they will be blessed all the days of their lives here on earth just as Kenneth and Phyllis were. Thank you that there are couples like them that inspire us to reach for 60 years of marriage and thank you for men like Kenneth that are the example of what a loving husband should be. May his family heal from this loss and carry on his legacy of love. Amen.

Truth in love,
Heather
