When reading your bible, be aware that they lived in a culture of patronage; a system where a patron would use their abilities, influence, or position to obtain something for someone that they couldn’t obtain for themselves in exchange for the obligation to be of service when called upon; where the gift of the patron was understood to have conditions.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1
Prayer:
How wonderful is Your mercy, Oh Lord! A mercy one can not obtain without Christ. A mercy that You continue to bestow upon Your saints as we sacrifice our lives to be holy and acceptable to You. What other way shall we live in light of this gift? May I never turn away from this reasonable service! Amen!
