And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew 26:26-28
Eat My body. Drink My blood. It all began on the night of Jesus’ arrest. He knew He was about to die and so He established a supper His followers could remember Him by, partaken first by His closest disciples. This was to be the supper of a new covenant where many would honor Him for shedding His blood for the remission of their sins.
As Jesus gave thanks in celebrating His coming death, let us give thanks today for His completed death. We live under the new covenant established by His blood. May we all join together with our brethren today to eat His body and drink His blood. Jesus wants us to remember Him in this way, and it’s the main reason we assemble together on this Lord’s day.
Prayer:
Thank you, Father, for the supper in which I remember the blood that was shed for the remission of my sins. Jesus did this for me and as I eat His body and drink His blood, I will celebrate this new covenant with my brethren on this Lord’s day, focusing my attention to the time He was arrested, crucified, and then risen. I examine my heart asking You to forgive my wrongdoings. Amen.
Truth in love,
Heather
