Sunday Reflection: Pawns of Satan

Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, Matthew 26:59

They had made up their mind. He was going to be found guilty. It was the only way they could keep their power — keep their authority — keep their prestige — for this Man in previous times had vehemently confronted them all. Their hearts full of envy, greed, and arrogance.

Hypocrites! Brood of vipers!

This trial wasn’t about finding the truth. It was about finding a way to get rid of the truth to feed their own bellies.

Pawns of Satan!

My righteous God, I am angry when I read about Jesus’ trial before the Sanhedrin. It is not an anger that is sought out of self-righteousness as if I could never fall, but one that longs for Your righteousness. They falsely accused a righteous Man to feed their own egos. Jesus had exposed them and instead of repenting, they unfairly shifted blame upon the innocent. They became pawns of Satan, doing His bidding. And God, You allowed it. Why? Because You knew there was a higher purpose to all of it and that glory would result from such treachery. Satan would be exposed for who he truly was, and that not even the death of Your Son at the hands of such wickedness could keep Your power contained from saving Your people. Thank you, oh thank you Father for allowing it! There must’ve been no other way so it was done. And today, I turn my anger into joy knowing that my Savior is risen and that all will be revealed on the last day. Amen.

Truth in love,
