“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:1-2
When I first heard this verse this morning as my husband was reading it to me I thought, “Yikes! If I don’t bear fruit I will be taken away.”
Verses like this scare me because the last thing I want is to be taken away from the vinedresser.
But, if I bear fruit I will be pruned. Still a scary thought because what does it take to be pruned? Pruning involves getting rid of unwanted parts to improve structure and encourage healthy growth. What will I have to give up and how?
Life in the faith has already taught me that sometimes to be pruned you have to suffer great loss. It hurts and it’s scary, but remaining faithful through times of pruning has taught me to trust the vinedresser even more. Thus, I am able to wipe away those fears and bear more fruit by the fruit He has produced in me.
Do you ever become scared in these ways?
Truth in Love 
Yes, I absolutely know this struggle. It’s easy to be afraid to be changed without knowing what’s to come! This speaks to my soul a lot right now in a time of the great unknown of the future! So ready to get my husband home with us and move to the next chapter of our lives but my plan is not God’s plan. Reminding me to have faith that His plans for me are good and this anxiety I’m feeding on will not change the future plans or speed them up but clinging to faith in Him and His plans will prune me for what is to come for me and my family and give me the opportunity to share with others one day when they might face a similar scenario.
